Herringbone parquet models

47 products

In the Kulttur collection you'll find Herringbone parquet models in Hywood hybrid parquet or two-layer engineered parquet. For a bright look, go with light oak. For a modern, contrasty interior, go with dark oak.

What is Herringbone (fishbone) parquet

Herringbone parquet is a laying style compatible with both three-layer engineered parquet and two-layer. Boards are laid perpendicular in repeating steps, like a fishbone. Hence the name.

The difference between Herringbone and Chevron matters. Herringbone uses rectangular boards with straight ends. Chevron uses angle-cut boards that form a perfect V line by line. Ideally boards are factory-designed for Herringbone — adapting standard boards increases waste and produces visible joint differences.

Herringbone parquet — pros and cons

Advantages

  • Premium visual impact. Herringbone instantly changes the atmosphere.
  • Timeless. Works in classic and contemporary spaces.
  • Architectural element. The floor becomes a feature, not background.
  • Works excellently in hallways, living rooms, bedrooms, premium offices.
  • Easy to integrate, especially in oak. Oak Herringbone is the most requested combination — it fits almost anything.

Disadvantages

  • Higher install cost. Installation is slower and requires a skilled team.
  • Higher material waste than straight boards. Budget in from the start.
  • Requires a very good substrate. Any unevenness shows faster in Herringbone.
  • With underfloor heating, don't improvise the substrate. Too-thick substrate reduces heat transfer.
  • Poor installation shows immediately. In Herringbone, lines must be clean.

Herringbone installation: glued vs floating

Herringbone installation matters more than for straight boards — not just for durability, but for appearance. A small misalignment shows across the whole surface. Glued installation is often preferred for Herringbone — reduces movement, aids alignment, cuts squeaking risk. With underfloor heating, gluing can help efficiency.

Floating install — when it works

  • You have a dedicated click-system Herringbone collection.
  • You have small to medium surfaces and well-designed gaps.
  • You want a more easily removable solution for certain projects.

Glued install — when it's preferable

  • You have large surfaces or open-plan spaces.
  • You want better stability and a more solid feel.
  • You want better acoustics and less vibration.
  • You have underfloor heating and want maximum heat transfer efficiency.

Oak Herringbone: why it's the most requested choice

Oak Herringbone is the classic combination. It's in demand because oak is balanced in look, texture and versatility. Works in minimalist, Scandinavian, classic elegant or contemporary styles.

  • Easy-to-integrate tone with white, beige, greige or natural-tone walls.
  • Beautiful yet controlled grain.
  • Finish flexibility: matte, oiled or lacquered, by use.
  • For a coherent interior, pick parquet together with the doors and furniture. Fine pairings = premium interior.

Typical Herringbone parquet thicknesses (9–12 mm)

Herringbone typical thicknesses are in the 9–12 mm range, depending on collection. Thickness alone doesn't decide quality — structure, noble layer, finish and installation matter.

  • 9–10 mm — good for renovations, when you have height constraints and want clean thresholds.
  • 11–12 mm — good when you want a more solid feel underfoot and have larger surfaces.
  • For large surfaces and maximum stability, pick Herringbone install on three-layer engineered parquet.

Herringbone vs Chevron vs standard (straight) parquet

Herringbone in fishbone shape with rectangular boards — elegant, easy to integrate across many styles. Chevron — very precise V, angle-cut boards, architectural modern look; generally requires factory-dedicated product. Straight boards — simple install, lower cost, less waste, calm minimalist look.

  • Want a timeless premium pattern → pick Herringbone.
  • Want perfect geometry, modern look → pick Chevron.
  • Want calm backdrop, best budget → pick straight boards.

The geometry that changes room dynamics

Herringbone is a design decision, not just a technique. Rectangular boards laid perpendicular, with double rhythm — ideal for large living rooms and architectural hallways.

Herringbone vs. Chevron — the difference

Two premium geometries, two different viewpoints

Herringbone uses rectangular boards with straight ends, creating the classic fishbone look. Chevron uses angle-cut boards that form a perfect V. Both work best with boards designed from the factory for that pattern — standard-board adaptations increase waste and show at joints.
