A Wippro Damburit door after 17 years

In 2009, a client in Bucharest chose a Wippro Damburit timber entrance door for their home. In the summer of 2026 they called us for the first technical intervention since it was fitted.

Not to replace the door. Not for a problem with the panel or the leaf. All it needed was a minor adjustment to one hinge. After 17 years of daily use, the door is still fully functional, the slate panel is intact, and the work took less than an hour.

Project background

In 2009, the owner chose both the house's interior doors and the entrance door through Kulttur. For the exterior, the Wippro Damburit model was selected — a door in laminated timber, made to order and finished in natural slate. The configuration also includes a side leaf, which allows a wider opening when needed.

The choice was not made on looks alone. The door had to stay stable through variations in temperature and humidity, seal correctly and withstand daily use without frequent intervention. The slate panel also gave the entrance a clear identity — a natural material, with variations of grey, anthracite, bronze and rust, so that every surface has a different pattern.

The chosen solution: Wippro Damburit with natural slate

The Damburit model combines a laminated timber structure with a decorative panel in natural slate. The timber provides the door's structure, while the slate forms the visible surface both outside and inside. In this project, the same texture continues onto the side leaf as well. The vertical stainless steel external handle keeps the face of the door simple, while inside a classic handle was used, with a separate rose for the cylinder.

After 17 years, the natural texture of the stone is still visible, with no cracks or missing fragments noted at inspection.

The first technical intervention, after 17 years

In 2026, the client contacted Kulttur for the first adjustment of the door since it was fitted. The photographs were taken before the intervention, so that the condition of the product could be documented without any prior touch-ups or refurbishment.

The adjustment took less than an hour. There was no need to change the leaf, the frame or the decorative panel.

The intervention included checking the alignment of the leaf within the frame, inspecting the perimeter gaps, checking the hinges and locking points, adjusting the main hinge on the vertical axis, checking the seals and testing the opening and closing after adjustment.

A heavy entrance door works over time. The weight of the leaf, daily use and the building's natural movements can slightly alter the alignment. An adjustment does not mean the product is faulty — it is a maintenance operation that prevents the leaf from rubbing, the lock from being strained and the seals from wearing unevenly.

Why the Wippro door stayed stable

The result does not come from a single material. The construction, the finish, the hardware and the fitting all have to work together.

The laminated timber. Compared with a leaf made from a single piece of timber, laminated construction limits the movements caused by variations in temperature and humidity. After 17 years, the leaf showed no visible swelling or warping.

The factory-applied finish. Protective layers applied in controlled conditions protect the timber structure and the exposed edges. The finish shows normal traces in the frequently touched areas, but no extensive flaking was observed.

Hardware sized for the door. The hinges, the lock and the cylinder were chosen according to the weight and size of the leaf. The only intervention needed was to adjust one hinge, without replacing the system.

The natural slate panel. Slate is not a printed decor but a natural mineral surface. The panel remained intact after 17 years of exposure and use, with no cracks, detachment or missing fragments.

What the total cost of an entrance door really means

The purchase price only tells you what the product costs on day one. It does not tell you what replacement, repairs, repeated adjustments or the discomfort of a door that no longer seals will cost.

In this project, after 17 years: the door was not replaced, the leaf and the frame stayed functional, the decorative panel needed no restoration, the hardware was not changed, and the first intervention was a minor adjustment.

This is the difference between the purchase price and the cost of use. A well-built door may cost more at the outset, but it does not call for replacements and makeshift fixes after a few years. What matters is the construction, the specifications, the fitting and the ability to adjust and service it.

The role of the fitting

A good door fitted badly can develop problems in the first year. The frame has to be positioned correctly, fixed without distortion and sealed around the whole perimeter. On a heavy door, even a small deviation can cause the leaf to rub against the threshold or frame, the lock to close under force, the seals to wear unevenly, air to leak or the hinges to be strained prematurely.

In the case of the Damburit door, the initial fitting meant that the 2026 adjustment remained a simple intervention, not a correction of the frame or the wall opening.

The final result

After the 2026 intervention, the door remained in use. There was no need to replace the product or to refurbish it completely. The slate kept its texture, the leaf stayed stable, the hardware is functional, the traces of use are local and natural, and the adjustment was minor.

This is a real example of durability, not an estimate from a catalogue. The door was fitted in 2009, used daily and inspected again in 2026.

Who a similar solution suits

An exterior door in laminated timber with a natural finish suits houses and villas, protected or partly protected entrances, projects that call for a natural material, openings with atypical dimensions or configurations, clients who want a made-to-order door, and projects where the fitting and servicing are planned together with the product.

The texture of slate does not suit every project. Within an architecture of stone, metal, timber or mineral tones, however, it can create a clear link between the door and the rest of the facade.
