Interior Windowsill Installation

Parquet floor maintenance is essential, both for preserving visual appeal and preventing costly and unpleasant situations that may otherwise occur. Never neglect the upkeep of your home and the comfort it provides, ensuring that your entire property is properly maintained, allowing you to relax in a harmonious and peaceful space.

Parquet floor sanding does not necessarily depend on wood type or the essence of which the boards are made, as it is a process that can be performed on any floor. However, specialists recommend scraping only in the case of solid wood parquet and laminated parquet (double, triple, etc.).

1. Windowsill Installation for Windows

The recommended distance from our professionals at Kulttur.ro, between the WINDOWSILL and HEAT SOURCE (e.g.: radiator), should be a minimum of 30 cm. At the same time, the portion of the board that is no longer supported by the wall should ideally not exceed 10 cm.

  • Before positioning the windowsill, the substrate on which it will sit must be cleaned of impurities (dust, residue, rust, grease, etc.), and if necessary, the area where it will be placed should be leveled;
  • Polyurethane foam is applied in a serpentine pattern on the cleaned surface;
  • Special caps are placed on the windowsill, and the boards are positioned on the prepared substrate, leaving approximately 1 cm of free space until the window frame;
  • Small pieces of wood are placed under the boards, using a spirit level to adjust and straighten them (board angle of 90° with the window), adding more polyurethane foam if necessary;
  • While the foam expands and dries, weights must be placed on top of the windowsill to prevent the boards from shifting position;
  • Once the foam has hardened, remove the wooden pieces that assisted in securing, and make final adjustments around the windowsill (grouting / plastering / etc.);
  • Finally, remove the protective film from the windowsill board.
  • Clean the substrate on which the windowsill will be mounted, ensuring that the surface contains no impurities (residue, rust, dust, oil, etc.);
  • After placing the end caps on the board, position the windowsill on the previously prepared substrate;
  • Secure the windowsill to the window using screws with plastic caps;
  • Position wooden pieces under the windowsill, and using a spirit level determine the angle at which the board will be inclined (minimum 95°), ensuring that water is not retained;
  • To fill the space under the windowsill, use insulating foam with a low expansion rate, while also placing weights on top of the boards to prevent them from shifting;
  • Once the foam has dried, remove the weights and wooden pieces, trimming excess with a utility knife;
  • Around the windowsill, you can plaster or paint for a uniform, more pleasing appearance;
  • Remove the protective film from the board.
  • It is recommended that the portion of the board extending beyond the wall (protruding externally) does not exceed 4 cm.

2. How to Choose the Right Windowsill?

The windowsill is an accessory that must integrate stylistically and chromatically into the overall appearance of the room in which it is placed. At the same time, the material from which it is made must be durable, maintaining its original appearance for an extended period. If the board has larger dimensions than needed for the work you are doing, the plate can be cut using a hand saw with fine teeth.
